Dry mouth and burning mouth
The dry mouth and burning mouth syndromes are little known but relatively frequent pathologies that have a complex diagnosis and treatment.
At Loscos Clinic we can treat these syndromes to restore the quality of life to our patients. We are very committed to them, since we are aware of the consequences they have on a day-to-day basis.
Dry Mouth Syndrome
The dry mouth syndrome or Xerostomia is a sensation of lack of saliva in the mouth that usually occurs especially in situations of stress or nervousness.
It appears when the salivary glands do not work properly and therefore the amount of saliva decreases. It is a little known pathology, but it is estimated that around 40% of people over 55 suffer from xerostomia
If it is a very common sensation we must bear in mind that it can be a symptom of a more serious illness and for this it is convenient to visit the dentist.
For the treatment of dry mouth syndrome in Loscos Clinic we will prepare an individualized treatment protocol, based on the stimulants of saliva or sialogogues. During these visits, it is essential that you explain the medication you take, in case it influences and the dose could be modified.
If it is a case of irreversible xerostomia (caused by some disease), it can be tried to alleviate the problem with the use of salivary, moisturizing and moisturizing substitutes to alleviate those symptoms that interfere in the quality of life of the patient.
Burning Mouth Syndrome
The burning mouth syndrome is characterized by a burning sensation, itching or pain in the lips, palate or entire mouth without cause.
Although it is relatively common, the treatment of the burning mouth is complex and little is known about its causes since it can be caused by different reasons: local, systemic or psychological factors.
If you have the symptoms that we have listed above, in our dental clinic in Zaragoza we can make an exhaustive diagnosis. The diagnosis of this symptom is usually established by exclusion and is reached after confirming that the symptoms are not due to any other known process.
Burning mouth syndrome, such as dry mouth syndrome, is a complex disorder. To solve it, it is important to treat the possible factors that have been described associated with this pathology such as candidiasis, hyposalivation, medications, anxiety, etc.
Also, although there is no specific treatment, topical lubricants can also be recommended to improve discomfort, as well as some drugs such as clorazepam.
